ALEX MORGAN BIO
Morgan was born July 2, 1989 , to Pamela Morgan and Michael Morgan. They raised her and her two sisters, Jeni and Jeri, in the Los Angeles suburb of Diamond Bar. Morgan was a multi-sport athlete throughout her childhood , but didn't really like soccer until she reached 14. She became a member of the Cypress Elite club team, winning the Coast Soccer League under-16 championship and finishing in third place in the bracket for under-19 players. Morgan continued to improve her soccer skills at Diamond Bar High School. National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) chose Morgan as an All-American Athlete. In addition, she was a part of the regional and state divisions of the Olympic Development Program (ODP). Morgan continued her soccer career at UC Berkeley where she was the California Golden Bears' leading scorer in the first year of her career. Morgan was instrumental in getting the team to the NCAA Tournament every year and twice making it to the second round. Morgan was among four finalists for the Honda Sports Award and the first player from her school to be ranked among the top Hermann Trophy finalists. Morgan was a graduate in 2010 and had the third highest amount of points and goals for Berkeley. Morgan was a soccer player at the collegiate as well as national level throughout her college. Morgan suffered an ACL injury the first time she played for Berkeley. It prevented her from playing in U.S. women's under-20 soccer until April of 2008. She scored her first international goal in Mexico during the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Morgan was also part of the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup which she scored four goals while getting her team an Olympic gold medal, along with other accolades.Morgan was then absorbed by the senior national team, where she was substituted, and scored a number of important goals. One of these was a goal to win against Italy which secured the U.S. team a final place in the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest player on the team , and he was instrumental in leading the team to victory over France. Morgan, despite the U.S. losing to Japan in the final World Cup match, became the first American player to score goals or assists.
