Amy Carlson
Amy Carlson was raised in Glen Ellyn
(Illinois) and spent her entire childhood living in Chicago. Amy lived with her
family in Chicago, when she was in junior high school. Her parents, Bob, and
Barb taught at the American School in the Middle East. Amy is the mother of two
sisters: Betsy and Lori, and a younger brother, Joe. Amy has traveled across
Europe as a family member and on her own. Both of her parents worked as
teachers, so they had the opportunity to spend their summers together camping
and exploring all across the United States. They've camped across every state,
except Alaska. Amy traveled to Rwanda in 1994 following the war to help with
relief efforts. Amy was a gifted actor in school plays and also won writing
contests. In high school she was a dazzling athlete who placed in the very
first 3200 meter relay at the Illinois girls track. In college, following an
accident, she returned to the stage with a variety of roles on stage beginning
with Lanford Wilson's "Fifth of July" and also directing Wallace
Shawn's "Aunt Dan and Lemon". Amy was a Knox College student from
Galesburg, Illinois. She graduated with a B.A. East Asian history, with a
specialization in Theater. She relocated to Chicago afterward and studied
Improv at the Improv Olympic and acting in the theater at The Actor's Center.
Soon after graduating she was offered on a job as a contract actress on the
soap drama Another World (1964). She has been nominated for a Daytime Emmy
Award in the category of "Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Daytime
Drama Series". Her most memorable roles were of strong women, such as Alex
Taylor (1999), Maggie Pistone (2000), Katie Owen (2003), and Linda Reagan
(2003). Carlson lives in New York City, with Syd Butler as her husband, and is
the bassist for Les Savy Fav. She is also the owner of Frenchkiss Records, an
independent music label, and works as part-owner. Amy continues to write and
explore diverse and original jobs in the film industry.
