Patricia Velásquez
Creativity extends beyond the boundaries
of film, canvas, photographs, and media. It also acts as a catalyst to
philanthropy, charity, or activism. Patricia Velasquez, an award-winning model,
actress, and historian as well as a committed philanthropist and activist, and
also an adoring mother, brings an insatiable creative energy in everything she
does, whether it's starring in blockbusters like The Curse of La Llorona or
launching the Wayuu Taya Foundation, and participating on the UNESCO Board. She
relies on her intuition and designs her own path with great success, making
significant strides. She says, "I see my career as a ladder." "I
have taken every step up. It was amazing to do so, because there's been
endurance. I was never able to stop moving, simply sat down. This analogy is
reminiscent of an early experience. In the following years she relocated to
Venezuela. She was born in Venezuela and raised in France and Mexico. In South
America her parents worked in the field of education. They relocated their
family into an apartment block that was without water and had no elevators.
Patricia took fifteen staircases up using heavy buckets to supply water to the
area. She tried to help her family as much as she could despite her studies in
engineering and a rigorous dance program. The opportunity to be a model in
Milan and her rise to the top of the fashion ladder hinged on a promise to her
loved ones. She recalls saying, "When they asked me whether I wanted to
travel to Italy I replied"If you could send thirty bucks per month back
home to Venezuela and it's worth it, since that will cover the whole building's
water bills'." Patricia's success represented a turning point in fashion
as she attracted the attention of fashion industry professionals to South America
for the first time. In the wake of becoming "the first Karl Lagerfeld
model ever photographed" after which she proceeded to be featured in
editorial spreads as well as front ads for Chanel as well as Dolce &
Gabbana. Her appearances on Oprah's Supermodel of the World contest and Ford
Models’ "Supermodel of the World” contest resonated all over the world.
She also appeared on the cover of Marie Claire, Bazaar and Vogue.
